After 8 years of leading her very own orchestra (how many people do you know that have started their own orchestras?), Minna Choi has finally written and recorded her own songs, the first of which is a slow-burning ballad called “Laugh a Lot” which features a duet with How To Dress Well’s Tom Krell, with whom Magik*Magik have collaborated on and off since 2012.
Minna Choi, one of the Bay Area’s most prolific musicians, began the Magik*Magik Orchestra in 2008, for whom she still writes, arranges and conducts. With early praise for Choi’swork from the likes of Wired, NPR Music, and 7×7 (who called Choi one of their 40 Under 40), her orchestra has toured North America with Death Cab For Cutie, recorded the score to the films Looper and the Oscar-nominated short The Dam Keeper, released an album with acclaimed artist John Vanderslice, and much much more.
“Laugh a Lot” is Magik*Magik’s first release as a solo artist. Don’t miss this one, and stay tuned for more……
