Essentially the entire idea is the East meets West culture clash of Asians bringing hip hop to their home countries, now expanding over to the US and collaborating with American artists.
Company founder Sean Miyashiro started THUMP, Vice’s electronic music platform – which helps describe their style/feel. A lot of the collective started off as YouTubers and have now transitioned to musicians/artists. He describes the company 88rising as a “hybrid management, record label, video production and marketing company”
Biggest name in the touring collective is Rich Brian (formerly Rich Chigga) – an 18 year old Chinese Indonesian who taught himself English by listening to popular hip hop artists. Debut single “Dat $tick” was released on 22 February 2016.
