GRiZ
Just two months after the release of Ride Waves, his most creative and collaborative studio album to date, GRiZ returns with three new tracks via his Bangers[1].Zip EP – “Voodoo (feat. SUPERLOVE)”, “No Bad Trips”, and “Ice Cream”, all reminiscent of his heady bass sound with shades of reggae and dubstep. For those who missed him on Season One of his Ride Waves tour, he also revealed a Season Two run across 18 cities in the US this fall.
GRiZ’s musical history has seen him take a sonic journey through future-funk, glitch-hop, dubstep, soul and beyond, with this next batch of releases staying true to his eclectic style. The lead track “Voodoo (feat. SUPERLOVE)” is a feel-good reggae jam, sliced up by heavy dubstep drops and lyrical references to black magic and shamans. “No Bad Trips” follows in the same vein, with the prevalence of a signature funky horn section and cuts of head-banging sub-bass frequencies. Fans may recognize “Ice Cream”, a track he’s been previewing across Season One of his tour. At Detroit’s Movement, GRiZ waded through a massive crowd in Hart Plaza with a mobile ice cream cart, passing out treats to fans as the track looped over the speakers.
Lettuce
LETTUCE is (a) the prime ingredient in a salad, (b) a slang for cash, (c) a green herb that can be smoked, (d) a genre-busting six-member musical collective formed in 1992 by four alumni of the prestigious Berklee College Of Music, or (e) all of the above. If you answered “e,” then you’re in on the sheer magic of a band that both feeds the rich history of funk music and combines it with strains of hip-hop, rock, psychedelia, jazz, soul, jam, go-go, and the avant-garde.
All together now… Lett us VIBE.
