The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
“In celebration of the Castro Community Benefit District’s 20th Anniversary, we invite you to join us for a monumental evening as we open our doors for the first time since 2024 with a special 35MM screening of the beloved cult classic, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. This is more than just a movie screening; it marks the first film to be shown at the newly restored Castro Theatre, heralding a new era for this cherished San Francisco landmark.
Every ticket purchased directly supports the essential work of the Castro Community Benefit District in enhancing the neighborhood’s safety, cleanliness, and overall vibrancy. We invite everyone—friends, neighbors, and allies—to come together in celebration of the Castro neighborhood for a night of joy, glamour, and community.
In a nod to the film’s spectacular style and in the spirit of The Castro Theatre’s legacy, the evening will also include a fabulous drag costume contest! Patrons are strongly encouraged to come dressed to impress in their most over-the-top, outrageously campy drag ensembles. Prepare to strut your stuff, as fabulous prizes will be awarded to those who serve the best looks and embody the spirit of Priscilla.”
Two drag performers and a transgender woman travel across the Australian desert in their colorful bus, named Priscilla, to perform their unique style of cabaret for enthusiastic crowds and homophobic locals. But when the queens learn the truth about why one of them took the job, it threatens their act and their friendship.
