The Bay Area’s premier film institution since 1957, SFFILM connects singular storytellers with passionate audiences through film programming, artist development, and youth education.

Club Kid plunges audiences headfirst into the exhilarating, sybaritic universe of New York City nightlife. First-time writer-director Jordan Firstman stars as Peter, a magnetic club promoter whose lifestyle of revelry is upended when he unexpectedly discovers he fathered a young boy. Thrust into parenthood, Peter navigates his newfound responsibilities in fits and starts, relying heavily on his chosen family as he works to establish a philosophy for intimate love. Firstman’s script and performance deftly balance outrageous humor and anarchic energy with an unexpected emotional generosity. Newcomer Reggie Absolom is terrific as Peter’s son, Arlo, holding his own alongside a wonderfully unpredictable ensemble featuring Cara Delevingne, Diego Calva, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Miss Benny, and Colleen Camp. Presented in 35mm, the film possesses a tactile physicality and vivid sense of place, while killer needle drops perfectly compliment the multitudes of Peter and Arlo’s experiences. Poignant and irreverent, Club Kid offers an insider’s glimpse into a distinctive culture while resonating with anyone who has struggled to find their place in the world. Funny, heartfelt, and singular, Club Kid is an irresistible invitation to experience something you won’t soon forget. —Jessie Fairbanks
