Multi-award-winning singer and songwriter Jorja Smith announces her new album, “What Are The Odds” featuring sole production from P2J [Beyoncé, Stormzy, Burna Boy].

The album arrives ten years after ‘Blue Lights’, the Platinum-selling debut single that introduced Jorja’s singular voice and set the course for one of British music’s most influential musicians. Since 2016, Jorja has delivered two No.3 albums – Gold selling debut “Lost & Found” (2018) and “Falling Or  Flying” (2023) – and collaborated with global superstars including Kendrick Lamar, Burna Boy, Stormzy, Drake and Giggs. The Walsall born singer and songwriter has won two BRITs and received nominations for a Grammy, an Ivor Novello and the Mercury Prize and currently counts over 11 million monthly listeners and 4.7 billion streams on Spotify alone, with eight million followers across socials.  

Jorja had already had a run of major moments in 2026, including a performance on the debut season of Saturday Night Live UK , her appearance on the soundtrack to Riz Ahmed’s Prime Video series ‘Bait’ with ‘Price Of It All’, and the announcement that she will co-headline ‘All Points East’ in Victoria Park on Friday 21 August alongside Tems.

With her third album “What Are The Odds,” Jorja continues to build on her legacy with a euphoric offering rooted firmly in dance music. Confidently channelling UKG, Grime, 2Step, Funky House, Soulful House and Afro House, this thrilling, pulsating record rarely dips below 140 BPM. “This is music to make you move,” says the 29-year-old. “I want people to hear it on the dancefloor, at Carnival, in the car and in their headphones on the night bus home. This is a record for driving and vibing.”

The genesis of “What Are The Odds” was almost accidental. After connecting with P2J on “Falling Or Flying” standout ‘Little Things’, the pair talked loosely about doing a dance project. When Jorja finally dropped by P’s east London studio in September 2025, she found two years’ worth of material waiting. “I went expecting a four-track demo. But P came with some extreme heat and magic. Before we realised it, we had 20 tracks.”

The first nine songs to make the cut were demoed in two days; a third session yielded the final three sketches. “We felt this momentum to keep going and to stay in the moment. The music just flowed out.” This sense of creative spontaneity and unforced forward motion vibrates throughout the album. Crucially too, as a fully independent artist, there were no outside opinions and zero expectations. It was just Jorja, P2J and a few friends — including Maverick Sabre, Ed Thomas (Stormzy, FKA Twigs), The KTNA’s, Clementine Douglas (Chase & Status, Calvin Harris), Dominik ‘Deats’ Patrzek (Kendrick Lemar), Marco Bernardis (Dave), Ali Pensmith (Beyoncé) and Ezrah Roberts-Grey — in a perfect storm of creative freedom, fluid collaboration and a shared playlist of dance classics to inspire their creation.

It shows. From the explosive opening to the album’s yearning conclusion, this is 37 minutes of musical magic that moves, in every sense. In the tradition of Candi Staton, Barbara Tucker and Jocelyn Brown, this is club music with something to say as Jorja examines friendship, grief, growth, and the courage to cut people loose.

“All music can make you move, emotionally,” says Jorja, “but I don’t want to skank to a ballad, personally! I wanted music to make me move physically and emotionally.”

As evidenced by the album’s first single, ‘What’s Done Is Done’, this is an album that taps into a sense of nostalgia while remaining very much in the now. The single channels Sticky’s 2001 Garage classic ‘Boo’—ice-cold synths, and Jorja’s rapid-fire flow evoking Ms Dynamite— as she torches a toxic relationship. ‘I knew what it was, when you said it wasn’t.’

Elsewhere, tracks shimmering with 2-step celebrate a summer fling, while the sounds of Afro House capture the initial flush of love. In the earlier part of the album, Jorja reflects on moving back to Walsall after tiring of living in London, something she points out has changed since recording the album in Bethnal Green. “When I was writing these songs, I couldn’t help thinking about Grime, pirate radio, all the raves that came from east London. Recording around there during the early evening, it was just buzzing. I was buzzing.”

The theme of friendship runs throughout too, whether songs that reflect on loving a friend who is lost to addiction – “it’s about being there even when you can’t be there” – or mourning relationships that have quietly faded. Elsewhere, Jorja calls time on those who have taken advantage of her. “I’ve had people use me a couple of times, but I’ve learnt from it and I’ve grown from it. It wasn’t okay, but it’s okay,” Jorja decides.

Celebrating the ten-year anniversary of ‘Blue Lights’ earlier this year also prompted Jorja to reflect on a decade spent growing up in public, something she addresses on the brilliant title track ‘What Are The Odds’, which sees Jorja rap once more, an approach she most recently explored in 2025 on AJ Tracey’s ‘Crush’, which spent 23 weeks in the Top 40. ‘That’s the thing about a life up high, in the lights you can’t see what’s off… when you’re young on the stage with a mic by yourself, realising it all but there’s no one there’.

“I was 18 when I started doing this and it can be isolating,” says Jorja of the song. “I just needed to get that feeling out so I could move on from it.”

Time away helped too. Moving back to Walsall, reconnecting with family and signing up for the 2027 London Marathon have reinvigorated Jorja both personally and creatively. “I’m in a much better place with everything now. I’m having a lot of fun with it because I’m feeling a lot more confident. I’m feeling the best I’ve ever felt.”

The album’s focused two-person authorship—like Billie Eilish and Finneas, or Missy and Timbaland— is its quiet superpower. No committees. No compromises. Just a shared vision, fully realised.

Conceptualised by renowned photographer and filmmaker Bolado Banjo, the artwork is as direct as the music. “The front cover is quite confrontational. I’m staring down the lens. The title has no question mark after it. It’s a statement.”

“What Are The Odds” will be released in time for Jorja’s co-headlining performance at All Points East takeover in August – the perfect launchpad for the next decade.

“I’ve never made an album in this way before; it’s how I want to make every record going forward,” Jorja says. “I’ve never felt more confident, more passionate about an album and that’s because it was made without pressure and so it came with such ease. Now all that’s left is to get it out there and get the world skanking!”
