Vallis Alps
Blending synth-pop, downtempo, and hip-hop influences into wistful but not too nostalgic songs, Vallis Alps is the project of vocalist Parissa Tosif and producer David Ansari. Though the pair originally lived thousands of miles apart — Tosif was from Canberra, Australia and Ansari from Seattle in the U.S. — they met during their gap year in 2010. After Ansari heard Tosif sing at a friend’s house, they struck up a friendship and collaborated on music over the Internet and in person for several years.
Vallis Alps released their self-titled debut EP in January 2015, and the single “Young” became a hit, ultimately placing at #27 on that year’s triple j Hottest 100. Late that year, the duo moved to Sydney, played Splendour In The Grass, Falls Festival, Listen Out, Groovin’ The Moo, Spilt Milk, Reading & Leeds, The Great Escape, SXSW and more, selling out shows around the world in record time, and earned much critical acclaim from triple j, The Line Of Best Fit, NME, Rolling Stone, Billboard and more, produced remixes for Troye Sivan with ‘EASE‘ and Matt Maeson on ‘Hallucinogenics‘ and performed a cover of The Shins‘ ‘New Slang‘ for triple j’s Live A Version and currently hold a discography boasting half a billion streams globally.
Parissa Tosif and David Ansari returned to form earlier this year with ‘Set It Off, Set It Right’, ‘On The Eve Of The Rush’, and ‘Higher Than This’ after a five-year break from music. In that time, Tosif became a mother and got her admittance and entrance as a practising lawyer, whilst Ansari launched his ebullient solo project Davey and Podcrushed, the podcast where Penn Badgley, Nava Kavelin and Sophie Ansari explore the heartbreak, anxiety and self-discovery of being a teenager with notable guests including Amy Schumer, Drew Barrymore, Lisa Kudrow, Mark Ronson and more. Now, with two EPs (Vallis Alps in 2015 and Fable in 2017) and two singles now in the bag, the pair return to release their much-anticipated debut album Cleave in August 2023.
